Nigeria’s number one urban radio station The Beat 99.9fm scored another feat on the 6th of June, 2013 when its twitter handle @thebeat999fm was officially verified by the social media network.

The Beat 99.9 is the first radio station in Nigeria and largely in Africa to achieve this milestone!

Officially broadcasting since 2009, the 24-hour entertainment radio which showcases an array of young, talented on air personalities, boasts of over 160,000 followers with about 130,000 tweets so far on its handle @thebeat999fm. Activities on @thebeat999fm also feature a total engagement of 7,000 per month.

The Beat 99.9fm’s Facebook page also enjoys a followership of over 480,000 fans with total engagement records bordering on 157,000 per month!

Aptly dubbed “the Heartbeat of Lagos”, the stylish radio station – which recently opened up shop in Ibadan (Oyo State) by popular demand – also uses the opportunity to express appreciation to its wonderful and loyal listeners (and die-hard fans) who have made the station’s phenomenal growth and success possible.

Speaking excitedly on the recent development, Deji Awokoya GM of of Megalectrics (operators of the Beat99.9fm, Classicfm 97.3 and Naija fm 102.7, says ‘this is a massive achievement and its right in line with our philosophy of being a trendsetter in the industry, for us to be verified by Twitter which is a global organization based outside of Africa. It’s certainly a significant milestone and recognition of the value we bring to our community. Social media is increasingly becoming the way to have a two way interaction with listeners and this stamp of approval shows that we are indeed listening to them and they’re with us on the ride…’

Sister stations Classic fm 97.3 and Naija fm 102.7 are also on their way to being verified.
