The retail giant has announced plans to expand its presence with the opening of stores in new cities like Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Benin and Jos in the coming months and a number of additional new stores by 2023.

Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited (RSNL), owners of Shoprite in Nigeria, have an aggressive expansion planned for the Nigeria market over the next few years with plans already in place to reopen the Circle Mall store in Lagos in 2022. The store which is located in Jakande, Lagos was closed down following the vandalisation that erupted after the EndSARS protests late 2020.

“With the launch of our new outlets this year, we are looking to take our retail stores to other cities across the country giving more Nigerians access to the refreshing Shoprite experience. As the next steps, we intend to open a number of more outlets by 2023, as well as increase our footprints by penetrating remote areas, and pursuing international expansion opportunities in the years to follow,” Tayo Amusan, Chairman RSNL said.

Alongside this, the retail group has announced plans to conclude its business operations in Maryland Ikeja from Monday, January 31, 2022.

“After careful consideration of the challenges experienced by the outlet, we have made the difficult, but necessary, decision. We thank the surrounding community for years of patronage and loyalty. Our commitment to Lagos State is unwavering and we look forward to providing area shoppers with enhanced shopping experiences in the future,” Amusan explained.
