Michael Orodare, a Staff Writer with Neusroom.com, has been named as one of the three panellists to speak at a two-day Capacity Building Workshop on Conflict Reporting for Journalists which takes place in Abuja on Thursday, July 22, 2021.

Orodare will be speaking alongside Adekunle Adebajo of HumAngle and Ibrahim Adeyemi of Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) at the panel session where they would be sharing their individual experiences in conflict reporting.

The two-day workshop is organised by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in partnership with the Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism (PTCIJ).

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is a German foundation sponsored by the German government. It promotes democracy, rule of law and a socially and environmentally responsible market economy in more than 120 countries.

Resource persons at the capacity building workshop include Publisher of Premium Times, Dapo Olorunyomi, Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi of the Department of Mass Communication, Baze University, Abuja; Prof. Olawale Albert and Dr. Sola Olorunyomi of the University of Ibadan.

Others are Osai Ojigho, the Country Director of Amnesty International, and Gen. Sani Kukasheka Usman (Rtd), Former Director of Public Relations, Nigerian Army, among others.

Speaking ahead of the event, Orodare said, “I’m excited to be participating in the workshop because it is an opportunity to learn more and also share experiences from the great works we do at Neusroom.com where we tell untold stories to broaden knowledge of the younger generation, right the wrong perspectives and foster peace with the right information.

“At this critical time in the history of Nigeria, journalists must be equipped with the right skill set needed to effectively play their roles as peacebuilders to guide against reports that could set the nation on fire. This is an important and timely workshop for every Nigerian journalist.”

Before joining Neusroom.com in 2020 from Punch newspaper, Orodare has had bylines in The Nation, ThisDay, Vanguard newspaper and other online media platforms.

Since joining Neusroom.com, he has authored several groundbreaking stories, including a  March 2021 special report from his visit to Igangan, a small Oyo town about 160km from Lagos which was brought to prominence by the gruesome murder of a University of Aberdeen-trained businessman, Dr Fatai Aborode.

Orodare was the first journalist in the world to do an exposé report detailing the early life of Nigerian Instagram celebrity, Ramam Abass Olorunwa aka Hushpuppi, arrested in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates in June 2020.

His recent human interest report on the crisis at the Sasa market in Ibadan, Oyo State which sparked ethnic violence that reverberated across Nigeria, inspired donations from readers for the family of the cobbler whose death sparked the clash.
