BlackHouse Media (BHM), a global communications services company, has congratulated the Managing Director of Google, Alex Okosi, on the occasion of his recent recognition with the Iconic Pioneer Award by the Silverbird Group.

 

Held at the Eko Hotel & Suites on March 3rd 2024, Okosi was honoured by the Silverbird Group with the Iconic Pioneer Award in recognition of Okosi’s exemplary leadership and contributions to the business and entertainment landscape of Nigeria and the African continent.

Okosi was awarded alongside other notable dignitaries like Tom Adaba, former Director General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission who was conferred with the Silverbird Lifetime Achievement Award and Chief (Dr) Innocent Chukwuma OFR, the Chairman and CEO of the Innoson Group,  who was conferred with the Silverbird Manufacturer of the Year Award.

Born in Nigeria, Okosi completed his studies in the USA, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a dual major in Business Administration and Economics from St Michael’s College in Vermont. He also holds certifications from prestigious institutions such as Harvard Business School and the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.

 

With over 25 years in diverse sectors, Okosi is a beacon of exemplary leadership with a distinguished track record. Currently, Okosi is the CEO of Google Africa overseeing the company’s business operations on the continent, spearheading initiatives that foster growth, and empower users to maximise the potential of the internet.

 

Okosi started his career at Paramount International (formerly ViacomCBS), where he spearheaded the launch of MTV Base, the network’s first 24-hour African TV channel, and expanded the BET brand across Europe, Africa, and Asia. From Paramount International, Okosi moved to YouTube where he served as the Managing Director of Emerging Markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Whilst at YouTube, he played a pivotal role optimising revenues, and driving exponential growth for YouTube in the region. His initiatives, such as the $100M Black Voices Fund and the annual Africa Day Benefit Concert, have been instrumental in supporting the growth of creators and artists globally.

Passionate about nurturing contemporary culture, emerging talent and authentic voices, Okosi has supported the careers of thousands of creators, producers, artists, comedians, actors, musicians and writers. He has also championed campaigns that have birthed global talent such as Trevor Noah, Lupita Nyong’o, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, and Nomzamo Mbatha to name a few. 

Driven by his commitment to innovation, Okosi is already making his mark at Google Africa with the opening of the first Google Cloud region in Africa – Johannesburg, South Africa, in January 2024. This significant achievement underscores Okosi’s commitment to fostering a robust and secure digital environment for economic activities.
