It’s officially Christmas week!

It also just happens to be everyone’s favourite time of the year, and expectedly, a lot of us have mentally shut down, zoned out of work and into the festive mood.

In the spirit of festive – and honestly because we know you most probably would use a movie recommendation or two – we’re putting you on to a spanking new Showmax Original that is just perfect for the season.

Kenya’s first-ever Christmas feature film, A Familiar Christmas, is a good as it gets; and it’s relatable as heck!

A Familiar Christmas follows the Moran family who reunite to spend a Christmas holiday together for the first time in three years. Their plans for a loving holiday are disrupted when secrets and a meddling mother wreak havoc in the household.

The film stars Elani member Maureen Kunga who makes her acting debut, Pascal Tokodi, Alice Mbeyu, Dennis Musyoka, Keith Chuaga, Charles Agengo and Ugandan Ruth Kamanzi, Ann Muli and newcomer Hannah Wanjiku.

Written by Natasha Likimani, A Familiar Christmas is directed and produced by award-winning filmmaker Reuben Odanga, making this his second feature film after the history-making Nafsi which became the first Kenyan film to achieve an eight consecutive week theatrical run.
