…MTN Nigeria Sponsors 2018 International Press Institute Congress in Nigeria

Journalism over the years has been known to shape lives and development of communities all over the world and Journalist play pivotal roles in the growth and development of any nation but sometimes if not properly done, it can lead to decline in growth of the target community.

More often than not however, journalism is always a positive tool which has been deployed to positive effect. It is as a result of the realization that Journalism is essential to the growth of every forward-thinking nation that information and communication technology company MTN, in line with its ethos of brightening lives in every sector of the Nigerian economy fully supported the 2018 International Press Institute Congress which held in Nigeria’s federal capital territory Abuja recently at the State House Conference Center Abuja.

The congress titled Importance of Journalism; Quality Media for Strong Societies” is focused at improving quality of life in communities all over the world especially in Nigeria where press influence continues to grow on a daily basis. Furthermore, the congress also seeks to deliberate on strategies and framework that protects journalists who reports news as well reporting news in such a way that is in sync with public interest.

Speaking at the congress Events and Sponsorship Manager, MTN Nigeria, Okundola Bamgboye said that “At MTN, we recognise that journalist and journalism as a discipline plays an essential role in everything we do, say and how our customers perceive us, we also know that  journalists wield the power to effect positive societal change and they need to be protected and given the freedom to efficiently work and provide solutions to actual societal problems, that is why we are all out to sponsor this congress and we are delighted to be a part of such a great institute”.

Some of the dignitaries present at the congress include Chairman, Folio Communications Plc/Publisher, The Daily Times, Fidelis Anosike; Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Channels TV, John Momoh; General Secretary, International Press Institute (IPI), AbdulRaheem Adedoyin, Events and Sponsorship Manager, MTN Nigeria, Okundola Bamgboye, renowned playwright and Nobel prize winner, Wole Soyinka among others.

International Press Institute is an organization that has been promoting press freedom for more than 70 years the institute comprises a global network of journalists, editors and media executives with the mission to defend media freedom and the free flow of news anywhere threatened.
