One of the six Y’ello Doctor Mobile clinics will provide health care services to communities in Lagos state. This is following the handover of the vehicle by MTN Foundation to the Lagos State Government at the state ministry of health.
The handover ceremony had in attendance several executives from the State Ministry of Health including the Hon. Commissioner for Health Lagos State, Prof. Akin Abayomi, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye and Permanent Secretary, State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa.
The Y’ello Doctor intervention, an initiative of the MTN Foundation, in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Health, is set to provide free access to primary healthcare services for rural and semi-urban communities in Lagos State.
Recall that in the last two years, the Lagos state government has commissioned a number of Mother and Child Centres and Primary Health Centres at Eti-Osa, Igando, Badagry, Epe, Amuwo Odofin, and Ifelodun LCDA’s, as part of its vision to reduce the burden of diseases to the barest minimum and enhance the quality of life.
Speaking on MTN’s Y’ello Doctor Initiative, Hon. Commissioner for Health Lagos State, Prof. Akin Abayomi, commended the efforts of the MTN Foundation. He stated “We are grateful to the MTN Foundation for this initiative, and their collaboration with the Market doctors, as this will help strengthen our primary healthcare platform”
Speaking on the Initiative, Director MTN Foundation, Dennis Okoro stated that the Y’ello Doctor project is one of the ways MTN Nigeria is supporting the Government’s efforts in health care and improving health services for Nigerians. He said, “The foundation is focused on communities, and that is the one way we feel we can assist the government in their assignment. We come in where we feel we should render assistance”
The Y’ello Doctor initiative since 2014, has impacted over 700,000 lives and over 500 communities across Nigeria with free medical services, and the third phase of the initiative is targeted at six states: Anambra, Gombe, Kano, Kwara, Lagos, and Rivers states.
