Lagos is without doubt, the economic hub of Nigeria. The smallest state by landmass but the biggest in its population with an estimated 21 million residents. Upon a first visit to the metropolitan city, one of the eye-catching monuments that may steal your attention is the “Aro Meta” statues.

Also commonly called the Welcome To Lagos statue, these iconic sculptures of three Lagos white-cap chiefs were designed by Bodun Shodeinde in 1991 and standing over 12 ft. high, the three sculpted chiefs were built to welcome tourists coming into the city.

As part of its year-end celebration Star Lager in partnership with the Lagos State Government hosted thousands of fans and consumers at the One Lagos Fiesta.

The One Lagos Fiesta is a week-long celebration of the yuletide season that kicked off on the 24th of December, 2018 in which thousands of Lagos indigenes, residents and top Nigerian music superstars came together to celebrate the end of the year 2018 and the New Year, 2019.

This year, STAR took it a step further by erecting a 58ft replica of the famous “Aro Meta” statues at one of the venues of the simultaneous five venue festival.

The “Aro Meta” statues, situated at the Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island, Lagos, is made up over 3,000 crates of Star Lager. Attention grabbing and stunningly made, it is a first of its kind in the country, symbolizing the rich culture of Lagos state and the enterprising Nigerian spirit personified by Star Lager.

The Aro Meta statues are iconic monuments which typify the spirit of Lagos and by extension its people. Hence, Star’s decision to erect a replica of this statue at the festival venue is a perfect homage to the city of excellence.

Now with the impressive decision to recreate the “Aro Meta” statues, STAR once again reminds consumers and the Nigerian people of its love and support for Nigerian arts and entertainment.

Speaking at the One Lagos Fiesta finale in Lagos, the Marketing Director, Nigerian Breweries, Emmanuel Oriakhi said,

‘We are overwhelmed by how our consumers have reacted to the idea of the giant “Aro Meta” statues. It goes on to show that people appreciate creativity and our efforts at adding excitement and joy, for which we are grateful. With the statues as with our activities at the annual countdown ceremonies, we aim to put Nigeria on the world map and amplify Lagos as a welcome state for arts, culture and tourism. We hope that people and our Star lager consumers appreciate it and see reasons to be proud of their country Nigeria’.
