We’re sending our prayers and condolences to the family of the great Nigerian artist Zinno Orara who passed away on Tuesday, 25 June 2024 at the age of 58.
Zinno Akpoghene Orara was born on 17 November 1965 in Benin City. He attended Government College, Ughelli, and the School of Art and Design (Polytechnic), Auchi where he specialised in painting and illustration, and graduated top of his class. He also had a degree in Philosophy.
For over three decades, Zinno Orara dedicated his life to the arts and received critical acclaim from his peers and art lovers around the world. He held his debut exhibition at Didi Museum in Lagos in 1991, and staged hundreds of shows at galleries and museums around the world until his last outing, ‘Refreshing Dialogue’ in Lagos in May 2024.

He was one of the most significant artists of his generation, a teacher, leader, and inspiration to many young artists around the world.
Zinno loved his late wife Adaora generously; and was devoted to his family. He is survived by his five (5) children Majiri, Chidera, Kesena, Princess and Karisma, and his wife, Blessing Zinno Orara.
Zinno Orara was a long-time supporter and beloved friend of the BHM family. While his eternally beautiful and inspiring works continue to adorn our homes and offices, his special talent and genius will be sorely missed by all.
We pray that his soul will Rest In Peace and that God comforts and strengthens his family and friends during this difficult time.
