Billionaires, Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola on January 1, 2015 joined a host of musicians, D’banj, 2face, Tiwa Savage, Omawumi, SoundSultan and comedians, Bovi, AY, Gbenga Adeyinka, Yaw, Princess and others at the maiden edition of Alibaba’sJanuary1st concert held at Eko Hotel, Lagos.
The show treated over 5,000 guests in attendance to a rich mix of comedy, music and entertainment from both seasoned musical and comedy acts.
Notable guests including Lagos First Lady, Abimbola Fashola, media moguls, Mo Abudu, Dele Momodu, Artistes; Adewale Ayuba, Waje, Bez, Yemi Alade, Dammy Krane, and Shola Allyson also came out to enjoy the first comedy show of the new year.
Brilliant performances by DJ Cuppy, Comedians; MC Abbey, Koffi, Omobaba, Helen Paul, Okey Bakassi, Laff Up, Seyi Law, Chigul, Mandy and Basorge Tariah.
One of the highpoints of the concert was the recognition of remarkable individuals who are pioneers and trailblazers in their respective fields.
Honourees include Mike Adenuga for establishing Nigeria’s first indigenous telecoms operator, Chioma Ajunwa-Opara for being the first athlete in Nigeria to win an Olympic gold medal, Leo Stan Ekeh for establishing Nigeria’s first internationally certified computer brand, Yewande Cole for being the first and only female flight engineer in Nigeria and Aloma Mariam Mukhtar for being the first female Judge to be sworn into the bench of the supreme court.
Also recognized was a first class graduate of Electrical engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University who went home with a one million-naira cheque and a job offer from Heritage Bank.
“The event besides being a special humorous review of significant happenings of 2014 by 12 top of their game comedians, will be an annual event that will provide varied and interesting entertainment for the family”, Alibaba stated.
He further reiterated his commitment to ensuring that deserving individuals are honoured at every edition of the show.
