BHM Group CEO, Ayeni Adekunle on Tuesday August 18 addressed this year’s sixteen Project Fame West Africa contestants on the subject of fame, Public Relations and image management.

The respected writer and entrepreneur, who is also the founder of digital agency ID Africa, entertainment website TheNETNG and music platformOrin, is a Public Relations practitioner with a wealth of brand and image management tips to share. Ayeni, who founded his first business at 17 has spoken at a number of high profile events including the recent Junior Chamber International (JCI) Lagos City Monthly Business Meeting With Entrepreneurs and the African Public Relations Association (APRA) 2014 Conference in Mauritius.

Speaking to contestants about the importance of being forthright with their PR team, he remarked,

“Your Public Relations team just like your lawyer should be one of the closest to you. I say this each time I speak about PR. If you are going to lie to anybody; if you are going to be deceptive; if you are going to be private; if you are going to hide stuff, the one person you do not want to hide it from is that person who is going to be in charge of managing your image.”

Going further, he informed contestants about the holistic nature of brand and image management relating to their career as artistes:

“Think of visuals as loosely as possible. If you are having drinks with your friends and you are going to push out a 5-second video, make sure it represents you because people are going to see it. Everytime you record with a mobile phone, you are sharing content with the world that will present you in a certain way. Understand that everything you say and project will form a part of what constitutes your brand.”

This year’s Project Fame West Africa is the 8th edition of the annual music talent platform following its launch in 2008. Sixteen contestants will be mentored by dance instructor Lovette Otegbola, music coordinator Ben Ogbeiwi, singer Miss Ige and actress Joke Silva. The platform has produced such artistes as IyanyaChidinma and Praiz.
